Introduction

Traveling by train is an experience that is both nostalgic and exciting. Unlike other forms of transportation, train travel offers a unique opportunity to witness the beauty of nature and the culture of different regions as one passes through them. One such journey is the G617 train journey in China, which takes one through some of the most scenic locations in the country.

The Beginning of the Journey

The G617 train journey begins at Beijing West Railway Station, where I boarded the train on a cool spring morning. The train was immaculate, and I found my seat with ease. As soon as the train left the station, I quickly got up and walked over to the window, eager to take in the scenery as we exited Beijing. As we passed through the suburbs, the hustle and bustle of the city melted away, giving way to the serene countryside vistas.

First Stop: Jinan

The first stop on the G617 train journey was Jinan, the capital city of Shandong province. Jinan is famous for its many hot springs, and it is immediately evident as one exits the train station, as the air is filled with the pungent smell of sulfur. I decided to spend a day in Jinan, exploring the many temples and parks in the city.

My first stop was Baotu Spring, one of the 72 famous springs in Jinan. The spring is set in a beautiful park and is surrounded by many pavilions and walkways. As I walked around the spring, I saw many locals enjoying a warm cup of tea, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the park. I also visited Quancheng Square, an enormous plaza located in the heart of the city, surrounded by high-rise buildings. In the evening, I tried the local delicacies, including the famous Jinan-style roast duck, which was delicious.

Second Stop: Qufu

The next stop on the G617 train journey was Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius. Qufu is a small, picturesque city, with many historic sites that are connected to the life and teachings of Confucius. The city's main attraction is the Temple of Confucius, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has been standing for over two thousand years. The temple is set in a beautiful park and is surrounded by towering cypress trees and tranquil pools.

As I walked around the temple, I saw many local families, who came to the temple to pay their respects and show their children the importance of Confucianism in their culture. I also visited the Confucius Family Mansion, a sprawling complex of courtyards and halls, where the descendants of Confucius have lived for over two thousand years.

Third Stop: Tai'an

The third stop on the G617 train journey was Tai'an, the gateway to Mount Tai, one of China's Five Sacred Mountains. Mount Tai is an impressive sight, with its soaring peaks and picturesque valleys. The mountain has been a place of pilgrimage for thousands of years, and it is considered a sacred site in Taoism and Buddhism. I decided to take the cable car up to the summit, which gave me a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.

At the summit, there were many temples and shrines, dedicated to different gods and goddesses. I also saw many tourists, who had come to witness the sunrise from the summit, as it is said to be one of the most beautiful sights in China. As I walked down the mountain, I was struck by the beauty of the many waterfalls and streams, that flowed down the mountain's rocky slopes.

Conclusion

The G617 train journey was an experience of a lifetime, which allowed me to witness the beauty of some of China's most iconic locations. The journey was a testament to the rich history and culture of China, which is evident in its many temples, parks, and historic sites. The G617 train journey will always hold a special place in my heart, as it allowed me to connect with the people and the land in a unique way.
